Kothur, Pavagada Taluk, Karnataka — In a remarkable journey of resilience, innovation, and service, Mr. Dhananjay Acharya, National President of the All India NGO Welfare Union (AINWU) and Founder of the National Federation of Social Organizations, is spearheading a nationwide movement to empower NGOs, uplift rural communities, and create sustainable opportunities across India.

During his recent visit to his native village Kothur, Mr. Acharya highlighted his deep connection to rural India and reaffirmed his commitment to transforming grassroots challenges into opportunities through social innovation, digital platforms, and community-driven development.

Early Life: From Rural Struggles to Purpose-Driven Leadership

Born into a poor family in Kothur village, Pavagada Taluk, Mr. Acharya experienced firsthand the hardships of rural life—limited access to education, unemployment, and lack of awareness.

He pursued his education at Siddaganga College and later graduated from Channabasaveshwara Institute of Technology. After working in multiple companies, he chose to dedicate his life to social service and nation-building.

2013: StudentWishdom Project – India’s First Student Social Network

In 2013, Mr. Acharya launched the StudentWishdom Project, a pioneering initiative recognized as one of the first student-focused social networking platforms.

During the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, following the ban on several Chinese applications, Mr. Acharya launched the “My Mik App” as a Made-in-India digital platform.

Developed in Mysore, Karnataka, the app aimed to provide an alternative platform for Indian users.

The platform was officially launched in 2022 by former Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai, marking a major milestone in digital news innovation.

AINWU: India’s First NGO Welfare Union
